Annascaul Beerfest, in association with Crean’s Premium Irish Lager, is proud to announce our partnership with Down Syndrome Kerry for 2015.  Here is an insight to the work of the organisation;

“Down Syndrome Kerry’s goal is to help people with Down syndrome make their own futures as bright and independent as possible by providing them with education, support and friendship every step of the way.

Down Syndrome Kerry Branch is a voluntary group of over 200 members. As a charity, we provide many levels of support for our members. At the moment, Down Syndrome Kerry employ three part time Occupational Therapy Therapists, we have one full time and one part time speech therapists. We open a café every summer in Killarney national park, called Deenach Lodge, which provides invaluable work experience to our young adults and we have two literacy and Numeracy courses, called latch on, running in Tralee. DS Kerry provides two parents and toddler groups, one in Killarney and one in Listowel. The aims of the groups are to provide a secure place for parents and toddlers to meet and share experiences and ideas in an environment that is fun and informative

Down Syndrome Kerry Branch Believe in making our members as independent as possible. Being able to cook is a basic necessity and often taken for granted! Our classes teach our members the importance of nutrition, how to cook and how to buy ingredients! Our classes take place in Listowel.

We also support initiatives that raise awareness of DS and provide training and advice to professionals. We organise social and sporting events. We receive no state support and all activities and services depend on the contributions of members and the generosity of the public.”

€8000 donated to charity

To top a fantastic year all round we can now confirm that a grand total of €8,000 is to be donated to worthy causes in 2014. €6,000 is being donated to Kerry Cancer Support Group to aid them in running their Health Link Bus and €2,000 is to be given to Scoil Bhreac Chluain for use toward special equipment.

Breda Dyland of KCSG said ‘Can I once again on behalf of “Kerry Cancer Support Group” and the “Kerry Cork Health Link Bus” sincerely thank you all for your generosity and support. What you have done for our organisation will touch many lives and in real terms can keep the bus on the road for up to six weeks. This further broken down can equate to 432 of our users appointments covered. This is the real terms. Think of the difference you have made to the emotional well being of the users and their families giving them the piece of mind knowing that  they have a safe secure and supportive way to attend their treatments in CUH. Many have said that the bus is a travelling support group and your donation will keep that group on the road for another six weeks. Well done. ‘
